As a result of these efforts, and those of our community and company partners, a good number of really quite interesting things are afoot. I have news to share ranging from updates on hardware configuration to services available to owners of Make Play Live devices to application available and various other fun things. Now that I'm finally settled back into the usual routine after the last weeks of travel, I'll be covering these tasty morsels of news one at a time here with a new entry every day or two.
Today, however, I get to share with you an adjustment in our naming scheme. We ran into a problem with trademark for the name we had chosen, and this pushed us back to the drawing board. This may have been a blessing in disguise as we looked into some of the broader pictures around this topic. In the end, we decided to go with a musical theme that celebrates some of the brightest lights in human history when it
comes to making, playing and living interesting lives.
For our debut product, the tablet formerly known as Spark, we have re-christened it:
Vivaldi
Given that Spring is right around the corner for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, here's some relevant music to enjoy:

Does my pre-order for "Spark" now apply to "Vivaldi"? ;-)
Yes, new posts, updates, finally! :)
"updates on hardware configuration" - do you mean different platform than C71?
Shut up and take my money
Sounds great.
youtube link not available in germany :-( ... Gema crap.
I guess it is this?

Spacek
i would choose :D
I kind of saw that coming. Sun already created a problem for other Spark products, on the basis of their Sparc CPU. Was it Oracle this time?

Can't say I'm a really a fan of the new name. Just doesn't seem all that fitting, catchy, inspiring, modern, memorable, etc...or roll of the tongue all that well.
Doesn't diminish my enthusiasm for the project though!
I have a hunch that English speaking people will prefer to nickname it Valdi

Where I come from it's more likely it will get shortened to Viv.
Vivaldi doesn't mean precisely innovation... Nevertheless, t's ok with all the happiness that his music expresses. And I like "Viv"! :-)
Finally, congratulations, Aaron, because this machine is the incarnation of the hacker spirit. Thank you so much for your efforts :-)
Vivaldi tablet can be purchased from Latin America?
My girlfriend are waiting for an iPad, but I'm waiting for Vivaldi!
@Algot: of course ;)
@James: without saying too much, yes i will be talking about new hardware as well as possibly some work on the C71 ...
@Unknown: yeah, i actually considered just "valdi" but it sounds very odd to native German speakers. as our audience is highly multinational, and people in German speaking countries have expressed large interest in what we're doing, this mattered :)
@David: thanks for the words of encouragement; i'm glad that the "hacker spirit" is coming through, because that's really where we are working from :)
@Carlos: yes, Make Play Live devices will be available in Latin America. we are still working on the precise details for timing, but we'll get there! :)
OK Valdi is board in Latin, How about Viva=> lively?
A nice sounding, short, easy to pronounce name could help in becoming popular.
Valdi? Because they make sliding doors?
Vivaldi,... sound special to me. I like it.

This is probably a silly question: in the videos I've seen of the KDE Vivaldi / Spark, it has been held in the landscape position. Can it be held and use in the portrait position instead?
I find that (portrait mode) a more natural way for reading web pages and ebooks, probably my main use of a tablet device.
Aaron, your international attitude feels good, unlike the typical (deliberate?) US ignorance in that respect. So I trust that the device will come with full support for NLS characters such as German Umlauts. This would include an option for the touch keyboard as QWERTZ as well as providing easy access to Umlauts rather than having to go through several keystrokes when typing. Am I realistic or optimistic?
What happened to our morsels of news every day or two? Not upset. Just worried. When information is promised, then not given and without any reason it makes new products look like vaporware.
I'm hoping so hard that this doesn't turn into vaporware
I was wondering about the battery life. 7 hours is quite good, the thing is after a year of use this will be more like 3-4 hours... Intense use may even reduce it more. I don't know how easy/cheap a replacement would be. With notebooks they are often very expensive.
Otherwise looking very much forward to having one and supporting this project!
