glasses for p.

took p. to the optometrist today since he had been complaining that his left eyes was blury. the end result is that he's getting glasses, pretty strong ones at that. apparently he has refractive amblyopia, though it was very well masked since both eyes look completely normal and healthy and he's been compensating rather perfectly with his right eye. but a thorough checking showed it up today and now he's getting glasses. he'll never have perfect vision in his left eye, but they expect it to get pretty good and that as an adult he could have it corrected with laser surgery should he so choose.

thankfully he's got a great face for glasses and the frames he picked out look awesome on him =)

Well, at least he's in good health in everything else, and glasses aren't bad. Glad he's ok!

Yea. There are pretty frames available nowadays. I myself don't wear glasses often, as I prefer the convenience of contact lenses, but occasionally I wear glasses too. It makes me look different, but that's something I enjoy. Looking exactly the same every single day gets boring too.. you do agree, right? now that you've lost your goatie and all.. :)

My son had problems with accommodative isotropia. When we took him to an opthamologist, he suggested surgery (not too surprising since that is what he knew), the optometrist likewise suggested glasses, and after a lot of searching for a better solution we discovered an excellent behavioral optometrist. After many years of work, my son's vision is corrected, and the amazing part was discovering how inter-connected his posture/diet/attitude/perception/... were with his visual system. I mention this because when we were looking, behavioral optometry was some sort of well-kept secret in the field, and you may not have encountered it yet yourself. Even if the glasses are a good, workable solution, you might want to consider at least a visit, just for the fresh perspective.

Good luck, and thanks for all your hard work.

@stuart: yes, our opthamologist said he might send us to a visual therapy specialist, depending on how things go. seems we managed to get a decent doctor =)
