bleh

Woke up ill today. Took the opportunity to read a bit of Spook Country. Missed a conf call with IBM which is being rescheduled due to that. Starting to feel a bit better as the day wears on, though. Have an idea I want to hack on now as a replacement for the desktop toolbox. One more step towards making plasma ready for prime time. I won't be doing the screen cast today as that takes an amount of a type of energy I just don't have today due to feeling ill as I do. *sigh*

In better news, Kickoff is just about ready to be integrated officially and should be in the next release (rc1?). I'll hopefully show that in the screencast as well, but the recording will have to wait until I feel better.

Get well soon, but I have to ask something. Will Raptor replace kickoff once completed or will they both be kept as options?

Aaron J. Seigo said...

first, it depends on what raptor ends up being like.

and unless nobody wants to use kickoff once raptor is there, i assume we'd keep both as options.

Will Kickoff continue to depend on Beagle, or are there any plans to use other indexing services, at least as an option?

dont forget the outro !
looking forward to next screencast and KDE 4

I had a look at the source and as I suspected Strigi is used for the search which means no pointless dependancies on Beagle. :-)

Take care Aaron, get well soon and don't over do it!

Thank you for all your hard work.

aaron,

SO now that we know what is going on with the menu and application launcher in KDE 4, but I have not hear much about the replacement from the panel. I think this was one of themain reasons for plasma. What is the status on the new panel for KDE4?

it exists. it's part of plasma. work is still going into it. don't know what much to say beyond that at this point.

the panel is no longer a unique and separate thing with plasma, it's just one more view onto the scene of plasmoids.

Hi Aaron, Just want you to know that where I work we've all been taking a keen interest in Raptor and we think it looks hot ! We think it has the potential to be one of the best developments in the area of "something to use to kick off apps" in err... a very long time. Not only does it look pretty, but in reading about how its supposed to work, it sounds brilliant.
