the source of my foolishness? i had just gotten back from yoga and felt ener-friggin-jized. the 7-block walk each way in -20C with strong winds whipping up the snow, skating it down the streets creating trails reminiscent of the those in a wind tunnel, was beautiful, passable but still not enough to take the edge off.
so i fired up kde4, popped open the control panel and immediately thought, "oh. my. goddess. this sucks more than i would have figured." i'll spare you the screenshot.
but 15-20 mins later and it's back in shape and better than ever. (excuse the jaggies and horific rendering in general in the screenshot below; xephyr doesn't run on my amd64 kubuntu box, it just crashes, so i have to use xnest *barf*)

as you can see it's right about back to where it was in kde3 minus the fugly group box and plus a splitter.
to kurt, with love, esme.

Errr... Wouldn't this dialog look better with comboboxes for the multiple choices and checkboxes for the yes/no selections? I found the whole idea of having to come and go in between two frames rather inefficient... and definitively old-fashioned. (Sorry to spoil your joy so early in the morning...)
yeah, i had the same thought when i looked at it. when this gets ported to a proper model/view based approach and uses qtreeview then we can provide editable delegates and do away with the second pane.
my goal here was to simply restore it to working order.
also note that there's more than comboboxes and checkboxes needed; there's also spinners and possibly sliders. there's a half dozen or so different edit widgets provided, actually.
Hey! This was supposed to be a Junior's job to get them interested in developing for KDE, now you've ruined it all! ;-)
@quintesse: there's still the kde3 version to do. the kde4 version was seriously messed up =/
/me notes that aseigo is lucky to only have -20C...
I have exactly the same problem with Xephyr on amd64... I wonder if there's a bug filed for it...
There is a bug filed and a patch for those wanting to try and fix it. See here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8417
The white space to right of "continue printing" should be removed or made purple. See a magnified image here.
@anon: yeah, that's either the crappy style and crappy xnest i was using at the time of the snapshot =)
