LCA Day 1

day one of linuxconf australia (in new zealand; oddness) has been great so far. dunedin is a wonderful university city with a very friendly populace. there's tons of veg fare for me to eat within a few blocks of the university and the uni's residences where i'm staying are quite nice. i have a room to myself, and that helps =)

there's an excellent group of people here at the show so far; very technical and not much manager-n-suit types. i've chatted with maddog and met linus when he arrived yesterday, so there are some of the "superstars" here as well. but it's all very relaxed and fun.

the main conf doesn't start until wendesday, however. right now it's just the miniconfs. the morning osdw session has just finished and i'm heading for lunch now. it's progressing well, so perhaps we'll have some more open source desktop devs in a few days ;) paul campbell, author of the laptop support in kde, is the room proctor, so we're getting to hang out and chat a bit. i think i've even convinced him to do the kdevelop presentation tomorrow.
